Glass Walk In Shower Doors Or A Fully Self Contained Shower

Walk in shower doors are usually glass, though there are also complete self contained shower units that are all glass and can serve the purpose of enclosing your space while not making the shower look or feel small and enclosed. Basco is one company that manufactures unique and customizable glass walk in shower doors that are reasonably priced and very functional in a shower area that you want as open as possible. Sliding doors will require a track and will give more of a self contained shower feeling because there will be walls or a glass structure on all sides. The pivoted doors will give a more open feeling since they will not need to go right to the floor and may be used in conjunction with wet room ideas.

How to Decide between Just Doors or full Self Contained Shower Units

Cost may be one factor. A set of doors will cost less than a full unit if you already have a tiled bathroom or shower space. However cost is only one factor because the full self contained shower units will require a specific amount of space. The units are prefabricated and will also usually come with a tray or back or side panels that are not natural materials. If your home is a classic or rustic design, most of the self contained enclosures are not appropriate. They are best suited to modern houses and smaller apartments that are built to certain dimensions and where a square type unit will not look out of place.

A prefab self contained shower unit is a very poor choice if you are updating your bathroom in order to have more space and a sense of freedom in the shower. Walk in shower doors, even if they cost the same as a complete enclosure are a better choice if you want a customized look, have a unique shaped bathroom or if your roof is an odd angle or very low. It will also allow you to create a wet room more easily and adapt more shower heads or small bench to the inside of the area enclosed by the doors. Glass doors are also available to be mounted in many different ways, pivot, sliding or braced to a wall. It is possible that you may need no other walls or trays or fixtures except for the doors.
