Under mount sinks are sinks which are tucked away securely within countertops or vanity tops. Because these sinks do not have a protruding lip, they are easier to clean and maintain. Since their edges are securely connected and embedded into the countertop, you do not have to slave over searching for dirt, grime and hard water spots just to completely clean out the sink.
However, just because they are easier to clean does not give anyone an excuse to neglect maintaining and cleaning their undermount sinks. For one, unseen hazards like germs, bacteria and viruses can still thrive in these sinks and spread illness. The sinks don’t need heavy-duty cleaning. To clean it, all you need are soft sponges, rags, a SOS pad, liquid bleach, vinegar, a toothbrush, baking soda, olive oil, window cleaner, measuring cups and a pair of tongs.
First, plug your sink’s drain and fill the basin with hot water and a cup of bleach. Leave this on for one hour before unplugging the sink with a pair of tongs, so your hands won’t come in contact with the bleach. Rinse it with cool water and scrub it clean. For stainless steel undermount sinks, use a SOS pad. For everything else, use a rag or soft sponge. You may clean it with a cleaning agent, but if you don’t have any available, baking soda would do.
For hard to reach areas like the faucet and the side of the sink, use a toothbrush to gently scrub out hard water spots and accumulated dirt and grime, and then rinse with cool water. Repeat this process until the sink is thoroughly clean. Wait for the sink to dry a bit before spraying it lightly with window cleaner, which will be used to give it a shiny finish. If window cleaner is not available, use a bit of olive oil instead.
