Among the many kinds of lamps in the market, there is one kind that can be activated by a simple touch in just about any part of the lamp. This lamp is called touch lamp for which you will not need to push or flip any switch to turn it on. The touch lamps make the best bedroom table lamps because they provide convenience in case you need light when you read at night or as you go to the bathroom. All parts of the lamp including the base, shade and neck are generally touch-sensitive so you can tap any of these parts.
Other than the convenience of turning on and off the lamp easily, touch lamps have other advantages like their ability to provide different brightness levels with the use of only one bulb, thereby increasing flexibility. With one touch on any part of a lamp that has three brightness settings, the bulb will have a 33% brightness level. On the second touch on the lamp, the light will be brought to 66% capacity. Full wattage will be derived on the third touch and the lamp will turn off on the next touch. Thus, with just a standard bulb, the touch lamp can provide a dim light as well as very bright light.
Other than the lamps’ lighting functionality, another reason why many people patronize them is because they help improve the aesthetics of a room. Traditional lamps need external switches in order for them to work. Instead of paying attention to the more important elements in the house, people tend to focus on the switches and be distracted by these things. Over time, the external switches will surely get dusty and dirty and there is also the possibility that skin oil will harden and pile up. If these happen, the functionality of the switches will be affected and may therefore result in faulty lamps. But a touch lamp does not need any switches thus is considered to be a good alternative.
Touch table lamps come with some disadvantages too. For instance, these lamps may not be the ideal ones for use in working areas where a lot of work will be done and there is a need to move things around the area. Since touch lamps are very sensitive to human touch and with your hands moving around, you may unintentionally make the light turn on and off many times. If you’ve got dogs or cats indoors who love to move around the house, they may pass by the lamp and bump into it thereby causing it to turn on. This will be a waste of electricity especially if you don’t notice it immediately.
A responsible buyer is one who considers all aspects before making a decision. So if you want to be a responsible shopper, do consider the benefits that you will get as well as the disadvantages and risks in purchasing touch lamps before you buy any.
