Duvets and double duvet covers are sometimes expensive, so picking out a high quality duvet is important. Here are a few things to consider if you’re looking for a high end duvet.

1. High Quality Cotton: If you’re looking for a cotton duvet cover, treat your search the way you would if you were looking for high quality sheets. High thread count is important, but it’s more important to make sure the cotton itself is either egyptian cotton or supima cotton.  It’s least risky buying supima cotton because a cotton can only use the supima name if it is made in the US from US grown supima cotton. True Egyptian cotton is great, but just be aware that anything out of Egypt can be called Egyptian. It might actually be a mix of high and low quality cottons. If you’re buying Egyptian cotton online, just make sure you read the reviews to see if people have been satisfied with it’s quality.

2. Quality Closure: You’ll quickly see the difference between a high and low quality duvet cover when you look at the type of closure it has. The lowest quality tend to just have an opening with nothing to hold it closed. A better quality might have snaps or buttons, and the best will have nice study button closures or maybe even a discreet zipper.

3. Color: If you’re going for a deep rich color, make sure the fabric is of high quality (like the Egyptian & Supima mentioned above). If it’s not, it will fade with each washing. Also check the tag to see how it should be washed. The purpose of having a duvet cover  is that you can take it off, wash it and/or change it out for another one without buying a new insert. If you have to dry clean the cover or if it’s a really delicate material, that might negate the great things about having a cover.
