If you are like most people, you have probably noticed those appliances and other items in the front of large home appliance stores. The ones I am talking about usually have a yellow sticker on them proclaiming them to be on sale at a huge discount. Upon closer inspection however, it is usually evident that these items are a bit banged up. This is what is known as a scratch and dent appliance.
At some point in the route from where the appliance was manufactured to the warehouse, and finally the showroom floor, it got a bit banged up. Although in most cases it is merely a matter of superficial damage and the interior mechanisms are just fine, many people are afraid to purchase them. The truth is that you can get amazing bargains if you look in the right places for these scratch and dents.
While some of them may look pretty bad, others are barely damaged at all. When a consumer buys a brand new appliance, they want everything to be perfect. Even the smallest scratch is a reason to take the thing back to the store and exchange it. This of course is good news to shoppers looking for a bargain, since you can often shave hundreds of dollars off the cost of an appliances just because it has a few scratches.
One of the best ways to go about looking for one of these deals is to find a dealer that specializes in this sort of thing. Many retailers have deals with scratch and dent stores in their area and unload imperfect items on them to sell. You can find everything from bar fridges to fancy dishwashers in them. One thing you should be careful of though is not to overpay. Know what you need to buy and check prices online before heading out so you know roughly what new items are going for. By doing so, you will be in a better position to grab a bargain and let the not so good items pass.
