Toile is a beautiful pattern that has its history in France where it was used as a story telling technique. Now, a favorite element of design, toile is used in a wide array of design and has a perfect home in the bedroom and bath.
Toile comes in a number of patterns, ranging from children and animals to historical events and different countries. Some good collections for toile patterns for your bedroom would be a French country pattern or an Oriental or Roman pattern. Nature or animal collections are nice as well, as these often invoke very calm scenes full of birds and flowers.
Toile ranges from just one color on a white or cream background to dual colors of forefront and background to multiple colored scenes. Depending on where it is going in the bedroom and how much will be used may dictate the color schemes. A single color would be beautiful as wall paper, upholstery or a comforter for the bed. Perhaps the pattern can be on the bed skirt and pillows to go with a more subtle comforter, like a solid white.
Though wallpaper is not used as much as it once was, toile wallpaper is still a hit. Wrapping a room in toile adds charm like nothing else. Then you can use accent pieces of toile, like pillows on the bed or a bed skirt to complement the walls and provide that cohesiveness.
Most of all, toile is a playful, charming pattern. Make it your own and have fun with it in your bedroom decor.
