Staying properly organized can mean the difference between staying sane and losing your mind. Keeping yourself organized means more than just using a mail organizer, though this is also a great idea. For those people fortunate enough to have a over abundance of storage space in the kitchen, it is still important to organize the space to use it to best advantage. Pantry cabinets are usually smaller than a walk-in pantry or a pantry closet. They can still be organized in order to place everything that is needed within easy reach.
The d?cor of your cabinets is likely to match the rest of your kitchen cabinets on the outside. Inside, however, the cabinets may be arranged to store canned goods, bulk foods, spices, and even seldom used utensils. You can purchase pre-fabricated cabinets to install in your kitchen or pay for the cost of custom designed units. The height of the shelves should be variable so that your pantry takes advantage of all the interior space
There are upper cabinets and lower cabinet units. In most cases, a lazy susan or slide out shelves will help you to keep track of foods that are nearing their expiration date. It is easier to store items if they are of a uniform size and can be stacked. If you plan to store bulk items, consider the purchase of a series of uniform containers that will fit smoothly onto the shelves that your pantry holds.
If you remove foods from original packaging, you should be certain to label the items, along with the expiration date, and store in airtight containers. Grouping like items in the same cabinet will help you to cook, bake or do other foot preparation easily. Arrange your cabinet to be close to the area where you will be using the ingredients.
Weight of the stored items is a factor in determining where to place them. Heavier items don’t belong in overhead cabinets where they must be lifted down. They should be placed on sturdy low shelves or pull outs for ease of access.
Pantry storage cabinets don’t have to be cluttered areas where foods lose their freshness and effectiveness. They can be neatly organized to contain items that are used most frequently in front or easily available by pull-out shelves. Cooking and food preparation can be a joy when you have an organized pantry.
