A mattress store will tell you that you need to renew your mattress every 5 – 7 years or so, irrespective of its condition or the amount of use it has had. I guess you can’t blame them; after all, that’s the way they earn their money. However, what if you stayed away from the cheap mattress bargains and spent a lot of money buying the mattress you now use? Should you replace it just because of its age? In my opinion, the answer to that is not necessarily, because it depends on many more factors than just age.
Have a read through the following questions to see how your mattress is behaving:
- Is your mattress less comfortable now than when you first bought it?
- Have you outgrown your mattress (this is a polite way of asking if you’ve put on a lot of weight)?
- Do you find that you wake up each morning with aches and pains in your back and joints?
- Do you find that you wake up each morning but still feel fatigued or tired?
- Is your sleep interrupted on a regular basis because you are ‘tossing & turning’ all night long?
- Is your sleep disturbed because you can feel your partner moving around in the bed?
- Is your mattress more than 10 years old?
- Is your mattress damaged in any way?
- Do you suffer from any allergy related illnesses?
As a rule of thumb, if you answered ‘yes’ to 2 or more of the above questions, it’s probably time to spend some of your hard-earned money on a new mattress.
If you are in that position, the benefits of investing in a good quality mattress like a spring air back supporter mattress are many fold. You will find that the quality of your sleep improves almost from day one. You will feel more rested when you wake each morning, and many of the aches and pains that you put down to age, will start to ease.
Hopefully your mattress still has some life in it yet, but when the time does come, there is no better investment than spending as much as you can afford on the best mattress you can find.
