Having a make up vanity is every woman’s dream. There is something extremely special about being able to get yourself dressed, made up, and bejeweled in your own private area where nobody is going to bother you and where you know just where everything is supposed to be. If you are getting a vanity table for your home, make sure to give enough thought to the lighting that you will set up for it.
Lighting is particularly important in a setting such as this. You need to be able to see well so that you don’t put on too much makeup and look overdone, and at the same time you definitely don’t want to miss any blemishes like pimples or blackheads that need to be covered up. But besides the obvious necessity of needing to see yourself clearly, it’s important to have lighting that will provide the right mood. Since this is your own private oasis, and a place where you can start the day in a calm peaceful manner, it’s important to have soft, relaxing lighting.
The first consideration is in terms of the type of bulb that you will choose. Never use a fluorescent light bulb for vanity table lighting. Incandescent bulbs are the only way to go; they will provide the soft, romantic lighting that is a must in this setting.
Once you have the right light bulbs, you will need to decide if you will cover them or not. Frosted bulbs can work very well exposed, particularly if they are shaped like flames, or if they are peeking out from a lovely lamp shade. Of course, you can cover them up as well, and if you choose to use shades there are endless options.
Glass lampshades are one beautiful idea while beaded shades are another. If you are getting lampshades, you can really let your personality shine through.
