Your little baby has finally outgrown the pink or blue baby theme that has graced their room for the past few years. What next? It’s time to redecorate your their bedroom. If you have never redecorated a bedroom before, you may be perplexed as to where to start. If so, read on for some handy tips on kids bedroom decor.
- Make the decorations as age-neutral as possible. If your child is four now, just remember that they won’t be four for long. Big-eyed animals and cartoony people may be cute and exciting now, but your son or daughter will find them embarrassing before long and ask for another makeover. Considering the expense of redecorating, you want to consider making the first set of changes as age-neutral as possible so it will last.
- Ask the child about their interests, and use that to choose replaceable decorations. Your child might be into sports or animals, or may want a Ben 10 bedroom now, but it might not last. For now, it’s best not to do large, elaborate wall decorations that can’t be removed; instead, use your child’s ideas to select things like shelf decorations, comforter fabric, and throw pillows.
- Don’t splurge for expensive furniture — be creative where you can. Your child likely doesn’t need a matching set of five little chairs from your local furniture store. If there are some pieces of furniture your child absolutely needs, consider purchasing some from a thrift store and repainting or redecorating them.
- Only buy the necessities. Those giraffe throw pillows may be adorable, but will your child ever do anything more than throw them on the floor at bedtime? Chances are, he or she doesn’t want more work when making their bed. Save yourself the money and trouble and only buy blankets, pillows, curtains, dust ruffles, and shelves that your child will really use.
