Getting your house to look like a home you’d find in a magazine can be a bit tricky. Not only that, it can cost you a fortune if you don’t know the tricks. Most of the time, the designers and even manufacturers get and give big discounts or even donate in the case of the manufacturer, for the various items you see. The reason is twofold. One thing that the designers get out of this is more leverage in order to use them. This isn’t a bad thing, just a benefit of using their services. The manufacturer benefits by having a designer use their products, hopefully exclusively. The more famous the designer, the more power they have to negotiate with the furniture manufacturer.
So, what are you to do if you think you can handle the job yourself, but don’t want to pay the marked up fees? Well, in some cases you are stuck. It really depends upon the stuff you are looking at purchasing. There are ways of finding discounted items online or going to auction sites. These can be great places. Then, there a local shops, garage and estate sales where some classic items can be picked up for very reasonable prices. In today’s decorating, there is a movement more towards eclectic combinations. So, you don’t have to get a set of furniture any more in the classic sense. A set now can consist of a chair from here, a sofa from there and a loveseat from yet another place.
What specifically are you interested in? Are you looking for furniture, rugs, lighting or art for your walls. If it is wall art you are in need of, then you have a blank slate. No, we’re not talking about your walls. You have a blank slate with regard to wall art options. You can find walls clocks that are more antique looking or types that have a more contemporary look to them. The same is true for large mirrors that you may be interested in. There are styles with carved wooden frames and gilded or more modern looking styles with clean and simple metal trim.
You can find even more variety when it comes to lighting options for your home. Not only is lighting functional, it is also an expression of art. You may find lighting that is more indirect for a softer look. How about spot lighting that can highlight that new piece of art on your walls. Wall sconces are great ways to bring both functional and artistic lighting to any home. As you can tell, there is much more to home decor than we’ve even touched on here.
