Save Space with a Futon Chair

Futons are great for their ability to transform from a couch to a bed in mere minutes, essentially giving the consumer two pieces of furniture for the price of one. Many people purchase a futon to maximize their available space or as an inexpensive sleep solution for guests. While futons are an easy and inexpensive sleep option, not all people need a full sized couch in their living space. For those that desire the convenience of a futon, but would prefer the size of a chair, consider the futon chair.

A futon chair is essentially a smaller version of a traditional futon, but with some limitations. While the futon can sleep an adult quite comfortably, a futon chair is better suited for sleeping a child due to its shorter length. While an ottoman can be added to increase the length of a futon chair, the sleep experience is not quite the same as a normal mattress. What the futon chair bed lacks in size, however, it makes up for in space saving ability. Most futon chairs are about a third of the length of a traditional futon, so they fit quite well in a smaller sized living room. Like all futons, a futon chair can be purchased to suit just about any style of decor. With endless frame and mattress options, you’re sure to find a futon chair to suit your style as well.

There are futon chair frames available in a variety of different materials including wood, metal and even ridged plastic. A quick search through some of the popular online retailers reveals dozens of attractive wood frames in contemporary styling, most priced at around $200.00. Many choices also exist when it comes to selecting a futon chair mattress. There are mattresses with multiple layers and even mattresses that feature single and dual foam layers for maximum comfort. Most futon mattresses cost between $100.00 and 200.00, depending on the options selected. In addition to the mattress and frame options, there are a number of futon chair covers that allow the user to customize the appearance of their futon to suit their decor.

For those looking to for a simple sleep solution that doesn’t require a lot of space or a significant financial investment, a futon chair is an obvious choice. Futon chairs take up less than half the space of a traditionally sized futon while still providing the convenience that comes from being able to transform from a bed to chair.
