Many people put off organizing their closets until it cannot hold anything else, or until it is a continuous hassle to find things they are looking for. Doing just a little organizing each day can slowly get the mess out, and it will keep the job from seeming so overwhelming.
Step one is a simple one. From the items visible to you, get rid of anything that has remained unused for 6 months or more. If the items must be kept for sentimental reasons, box them and neatly store them. It is a good idea to have a large box in the room labeled “donate” and another labeled “trash”. Take a look and make your decisions quickly. Set a timer and give your self 15 minutes to do this step. If you start mulling over particular items, you may decide to keep them, when they really should have gone into a box. Making quick decisions will get your closet less messy, and will get it done faster.
Take a break before doing step two. You can even put a day or two in between to keep from feeling overwhelmed. Step two consist of emptying your closet completely. Once this is complete, add any additional organizers, such as shelving, bins, or hampers to the closet so that everything that goes back into the closet has a place to call home. You may want to look through magazines to get great closet organization ideas and tips for how to make your closet look great, and how to provide extra space with shelving units and such. You can also find many small closet organization ideas by searching the internet. After doing so, it is time to put everything back into the closet. When placing the clothing and other items back, make sure that the most used items are within easy reach. Items that are mainly in the closet just to be stored should go the farthest back, such as on high shelves or in the back of the closet.
With just a little time each day, you can get your closet organized. You have been dreading it for months, but with these simple steps and a bedroom closet organizer, finally getting it cleaned out will be a breeze!
