It’s possible to have more fun decorating your bedroom than it is any other room in your home, as it is your own private space. With that said, a limited budget can provide some challenges. We want our bedrooms to be warm, comfortable and relaxing places, though unfortunately a comfortable, warm and relaxing atmosphere generally don’t come cheap.
When it comes to flooring, you will want something that feels good to bare feet such as luxurious wool carpet or even wall to wall shag pile but that is not cheap flooring by any way you measure it. This means you have to accept that some compromises are inevitable while still trying to achieve comfortable flooring underfoot.
If you are not a carpet fan, you may have solid hardwood flooring in mind. This can be perfect for bedrooms as well when topped with a fluffy floor rug or two, but when you price your wooden floor you will probably find that it is out of your price range and is probably more expensive than carpet.
At that point you may decide to go looking at cheap carpets or cheap laminate flooring, but I think you will be disappointed in the quality you will find in the cheapest flooring options. The carpet is unlikely to be soft and comfortable and will often have a tell-tale synthetic glisten. The cheap laminate will not have the realistic look of wood. And both kinds of cheap flooring will wear out much more quickly than the better quality flooring.
If you need cost-effective flooring then the best solution is to buy quality flooring at a discount. Either look for carpet or hardwood flooring at sale time, shop online or look for remnants or ends of lines. That way you can save without making your bedroom look cheap. If even that is beyond your budget, put down vinyl tiles or restore your existing floorboards as a temporary measure while you save up for the flooring you really want.
