When planning your bedroom decor do not underestimate the aesthetic and functional value of lighting. There are several layers of lighting that serve various functions to consider. There are a multitude of options on the market today. With so many choices you should be able to find things that will meet your budget and your decorative styles.
Ambient light is very important. This is especially true if you have a desk in your bedroom where you need to do work or school things. An overhead light that puts out a lot of watts is invaluable. Some people like to combine that light source with a ceiling fan. This is a good option just make sure there is enough light put out to meet the needs of the room. Another option would be to divide the room into areas and provide tall or standing lamp for each area that can be adjusted to direct the light. When implementing this option you need to be sure that you get enough wattage from the lamps to light the whole room.
Task lighting is the next challenge. You need this type of light source when doing tasks such as reading and writing. Each area of your bedroom will need to have this type of light. It can be combined in a lamp. For instance a stand up lamp may have two lights in it. One appropriate for overhead high watts and another more suited to a lower watt tasking light. Think about how to combine sources so you do not end up with an excessive number of lamps throughout the room. Do an internet search for lighting companies. Look around you at offices, friend’s homes, magazines and more. Everywhere uses light fixtures. Think outside the box, just because a fixture is used in an industrial setting does not mean it will not fit into your decor. Do not become too worried with the cost factor as you are just looking for ideas at this point.
The last layer is the mood lighting. Low level light that will provide just enough wattage so you can move about the room. There are some really creative ideas out there to produce this type of light. Under the bed LED lights that illuminate the base of the bed provide a super modern look. You may choose decorative night light type options that plug directly into the wall socket. Whatever options you choose make sure you can achieve the layers of lighting that are really needed in a bedroom. Bedroom string lights are becoming increasingly popular as they look so beautiful, are cheap to run and if you wanted to use them in your childs bedroom, are extremely safe.
