If you are one of the few who have ample space and money to indulge in anything you want, then let me be upfront and say, this article is not for you. If you are like the majority of the rest of us and are limited in space and money, keep reading. Being limited in room and money does not have to limit you in style and necessity when it comes to baby nursery furniture. There are a few essential pieces that you should have when setting up your baby’s nursery.

First, let’s consider the baby crib. In the first few months of your baby’s life, they will sleep an average total of 16 to 18 hours a day.  So, to accommodate all those hours of sleep you will need to consider a crib. Safety and comfort are the most important things to keep in mind. It is fundamentally important that the crib is in good shape, and fairly new if you’re borrowing a crib to save money.

Because you’re going to be spending quite a bit of time in the new nursery, you really need to consider a comfortable chair. Now, while most people first consider a rocker in the nursery, this isn’t always the best choice. The best choice is your personal preference. If a big overstuffed chair would provide you with the most comfort, then this is perfectly acceptable. Even a small love seat to lie on would be a great piece of nursery furniture. A rocker or even a glider with a matching ottoman are also a great choice because sometimes you are just too tired to take one more step with a fussy baby and rocking can allow you a quick cat nap while holding your baby.

Finally, a changing table is a good consideration for the nursery. Not just for aesthetics and what you’d expect to see in a nursery but because they really can help safe your back when they are the right height to prevent you from having to bend. Not only that, but the changing table can also give you a place to store diapering supplies. Now, if you don’t have the extra room or the extra money, that’s ok. A small dresser or even a bookshelf can double as a baby changing table. Just fit the top with a standard size changing pad and you’re good to go.

Whatever your baby nursery décor, whatever your space or budget, these items are the necessary pieces that you should consider when putting together your baby’s room.
